Spent an enjoyable weekend visiting my son down at OU. While camping at Stroud's Run State Park, I
saw/heard 39 species. Turkeys gobbling at dawn, barred owls caterwauling at night, and a nice
assortment throughout the day. Highlights were territory-tiffing Louisiana waterthrushes flying
through our campsite, numerous yellowthroats singing in the sycamores accented by northern
parulas in the treetops. Blue-gray gnatcatchers were abundant there as well. Heard chimney swifts
chittering around Athens town. With dogwoods and plums blooming with numerous spring
ephemerals blanketing the forest floor, you'd be hard-pressed to take a bad photo this weekend!
On a reptilian note: I came across a box turtle moving through the leaf litter. First one of those guys
I've seen in there native surroundings!
