Hi all,

It was a quiet weekend at Shawnee. The rain held off pretty well until late Saturday afternoon.  I had no rain on Sunday.  Bird activity was slow all weekend.  The whip-poor-wills and woodcocks put on quite a show Friday night on Forest Rd. 14.  Scarlet Tanagers were present and singing along with good numbers of Louisiana Waterthrush and White-eyed Vireo.  Warblers were in low numbers except for Blue-Wing, Ovenbird, Cerulean, and Prairie.  Saturday night brought in a wave of Hooded, Yellow, and Common Yellowthroat warblers.  This is the first time I didn't see or hear any Kentucky, YB Charts, and had only one Worm-eating.  Even hummingbirds were scarce.  Total species:  58--lowest ever. . .

Shawnee is beautiful and is one of my favorite migration hotspots because one can observe the birds singing for (sometimes) long periods with few people interruptions.
