I only had time to hit a few local spots the last two days, but literally watched temperate migration segue into neotropical migration. Yesterday morning at Hannah Farms Park, there was a late swarm of temperate migrants, with 50+ White-throated Sparrows, 5+ Chipping Sparrows, 4+ Yellow-rumped Warblers, 3 Palm Warblers, 2 Brown Thrashers, etc.. By the afternoon, stops at nearby Jefferson Township Park woods and New Albany's Swickard Woods found far fewer temperate migrants and the first wash of neotropicals, including Rose-br.Grosbeak, several Wood Thrushes and Red-eyed Vireos, and Catbirds. The only out-of-place bird was a very late Winter Wren at Jefferson Township Park woods, scurrying through the leaf litter. Today at Woodside Green, the neotropical surge continued with more Vireos, a Prothonotary Warbler, Yellow warblers, and Crested Flycatchers, along with 3+ Yellow-throated Warblers and lingering Yellow-rumped and Palm warblers. It definitely looked and felt like May today.
