Subject: [Ohio-birds] Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, Louisiana Waterthrush
(Medina co)

Happy day to be outside. Tromped through the ravine and heard then saw a
Louisiana Waterthrush! Once back on top, I realized the funny looking
Hairy Woodpecker was not a Hairy Woodpecker, rather it was a male Yellow-
bellied Sapsucker! First time I've ever seen one! Then later I saw 2
females tatooing their row of holes in several sugar maple trees. Bird
expert friend Kathy N. suggested I saw them while they are on their way
migrating north.

Total list of birds seen:
Turkey Vulture 4
Red-tailed Hawk 1
Mourning Dove 4
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 2
Downy Woodpecker 3
Hairy Woodpecker 2
Pileated Woodpecker 1
Blue Jay 2
American Crow 1
Black-capped Chickadee 2
Tufted Titmouse 2
White-breasted Nuthatch 2
Carolina Wren 1
Eastern Bluebird 1
Gray Catbird 1
Louisiana Waterthrush 1
Dark-eyed Junco 4
Northern Cardinal 5
Brown-headed Cowbird 2
House Finch 2
American Goldfinch 6

Also 2 nesting boxes in my yard have bluebird construction crews busy.

Other highlights, non bird included:
Crayfish in creek (3 the size of my hand)
Mourning Cloak butterfly
Cabbage White butterfly (possibly West Virginia White but it was fast and
didn't land for me to take a good look so probably just cabbage white)
Wildflowers:
- Bloodroot
- Blue Cohosh
- Cut-leaved toothwort
- Broad-leaved toothwort (not quite blooming)
- Coltsfoot
- Sharp lobed hepatica
- Spring beauty
- Trillium (not quite blooming)
- Squirrel Corn
- Yellow Trout Lily (or also called Dog-tooth violet)
