Went out to Hells Hollow Wilderness Area this morning. Found an Eastern Phoebe(EAPH) pair
building on the bank of Paine Creek. When I finally got a good view of the nest I was surprised to
see it was near completion about 85%. The female was climbing inside the nest and shaping it to
fit, she was adding small roots she collected on the wing, I did see her down on the ground stream
side, may have been gathering some mud to add. The outside of the nest was not as mossy as
other nests I have seen, maybe they will add more? There was another Phoebe singing down
stream but was unable to locate a female. I was also excited to find 3 Louisiana
Waterthrush(LOWA) singing up and down the creek. They each seemed to be patrolling their own
portion of creek about 50-100 yards each no overlap. The woods were very active, It was a good
day of birding.
