I made it to Sandy Ridge yesterday around 4:00. I had great looks at a very
cooperative Prothonotary Warbler. As you leave the visitors' center, go
through the wooded trail to the open water/wetland. As soon as you get to
the main circle, turn right. Go about 15 yards and the bird was flying back
and forth from the tree line to a shrub covered stump in the water about 15
feet out. I watched him for at least 5 minutes.
I didn't stay long, but in addition to the Prothonotary Warbler, I also saw
the following:
Bald Eagle
Yellow Warbler
Eastern Kingbird
Red-Headed Woodpecker
Tufted Titmouse
Song Sparrow
Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher
Baltimore Oriole
Northern Flicker
Tree Swallow
Barn Swallow
As an aside, on the birding trip to Pointe Pelee last week, someone (Lisa or
Tammy?) mentioned to me that there were Blue Winged Warblers that are
nesting in one of the Lorain County Metro Parks. Can anyone tell me where
those birds are nesting? Thanks.
Spencer
