Steve Landes called and asked me to report that in a cornfield
immediately south of the Pickerel Creek WA impoundment with a pumphouse
along the road are ~400 dunlins, several hundred terns (Caspian,
Forster's, common), dozens of yellowlegs, and a number of Bonaparte's
gulls; they are evidently sheltering in this partly-flooded field from
the winds. Not much in the pumphouse impoundment itself; he promised to
check north of the impoundment and the woodlot in last year's shorebird
habitat before he left  before he left, and to report to us. That spot
may well be unsheltered from the wind, but may have mudflats to look
into later. These kinds of any-port-in-a-storm spots are very good for
rarities, so have a look if you're in the neighborhood.
