 Hi all,

Thanks to Bill Whan for posting for me earlier as I was not in my "internet service area". Anyway, after a decent morning at Magee, I headed over to Pickerel Creek Wildlife Area to look for lingering ducks and shorebirds. A large mixed flock of gulls and terns in a field south of the main impoundments was the first thing that caught my attention. (See location on map) It included:
Franklin's Gull- 1 (almost full breeding plumage- mantle and head were almost entirely dark, and had a bit of the pinkish chest developing- noted white in wingtips while sitting and flying)
Bonaparte's Gull- 2 winter, 1 almost summer plumage
Common Tern- ~30
Caspian Tern ~40
Ring-billed Gull ~30

Also present were the shorebirds that Gabe mentioned earlier.

After a few minutes, a bunch of the gulls (including the Franklin's) and some terns picked up and few north. I hiked out along the road past a large copse of trees to try and relocate them. I did not find them, but I did find another group of Dunlin and some ducks, including a male Eurasian Wigeon. The bird was towards the NE corner of the impoundment (see location on map) and was associating with a male American Wigeon.

Best of luck to anyone who goes to find these birds (I guess they weren't refound today).

Map of sightings

Good Birding,

Steve Landes
