I drove up from southeastern PA yesterday hoping that the overnight storm didn't send the Columbia Reservation PURPLE GALLINULE (Photos) packing. As you know it was still there, happily. I was there from 12pm to 2pm and despite the cold rainy weather I and many others had some fantastic looks. At times the bird was too close to digiscope. Very Cool. The bird was very active and both surprisingly fast and easy to lose in the cover of the lily pads. Look away for a moment and he'll have snuck off and 10 minutes (or more, grrr) later he will be found at the other end of the pond. Wonderful bird.
regards,
jeff
