Paul Gardner and I had a fine early morning visit to Whetstone Park
in Columbus, which seemed to host a mini-fallout. We saw or heard 13
species of warblers in about an hour, the best being a singing male
golden-winged warbler. The golden-winged and most of the other birds
were found along the trail through the park ravine. The
golden-winged was not singing its standard song; it was belting out a
stuttering buzz that stayed on one note. The most common of the
other warblers seemed to be the black-throated blue, which we
encounted probably a half dozen times. Other birds of note included
a veery and a blue-headed vireo. Feel free to contact me if you want
more precise directions to where we found the golden-winged warbler.
