Hi all,

I perhaps didn't make clear in my earlier post that "Blue Weekend" is a celebration of the Oak Openings and features a variety of activities. Just click on the link that I provided and you'll see it all.

I also wanted to mention that Rick Nirschl, one of Ohio's leading field biologists who hails from the Oak Openings area, has made another extraordinary find. Some may remember Rick, along with Rick Snider, as the recent discoverer of the first U.S. record of Bare-throated Tiger-Heron, in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Well, he's also apparently discovered a spectacular spiketail dragonfly species that is NEW to science, in the Big Thicket region of Texas. I've posted a photo and story about that on my blog: http://jimmccormac.blogspot.com/

I believe Rick is back in his home state now, and should be patrolling the western Lake Erie region and the Oak Openings this weekend. If you run into him, be sure to congratulate Rick on these wonderful finds.

Jim
