Bill Whan and I saw the scissor-tailed flycatcher at the Kilby Road Conservation Area about 12:30 this afternoon (Tuesday 5/18). Following the directions Ned Keller posted to Ohio-birds, we drove to the brown barn on Kilby Rd. The path westward from the brown barn took us past a lumberyard then a flooded quarry pit, then turned southward. Soon on the left there were some large metal silos and some red buildings. The flycatcher was in the field between the silos and the path. It was well observed perched and flycatching. It's a handsome male bird.

Scissor-tailed flycatchers are notoriously fleeting vagrants in Ohio. The rain showers may be holding this one up a bit, making it more "chasable" than is typical for the species here.

Good luck,
Paul
