Around 11:00 am today I was at the Battelle-Darby Wetlands along Darby Creek Road in Franklin Co. and I heard and saw something that I could not identify. I sure would like some help. I first heard the sound from the reeds in the water. It sounded like a clapping sound, and then I heard some low noises (indistinguishable to me). I saw the bird slither into the water, but I just got a furtive glance. It was black and about the size of a sora, but I couldn't get a good enough glimpse to see what it was. I heard it again further back in the reeds clapping and making a clucking sound.

Anyone been to Darby recently and heard or seen this bird? Thanks for any help I can get.

Verna Ansel
Galloway, OH
