This morning around 8:00 AM, I was surprised to hear a White-throated
Sparrow's song. I heard him sing three times but was unable to locate him. I
thought it was a late date, but Peterjohn (1989 edition) states that "a few
linger along the lakefront into the first half of June." My yard is along
the western edge of Sandusky, less than a mile from Sandusky Bay.
I am used to seeing white-throateds here in the winter and today is
reminiscent of winter. Looking outside, the drifts of cottonwood seeds look like
snow, and I just used my snow shovel out to clear silver maple seeds off
the driveway.
