The enormously entertaining and spectacular Purple Gallinule was still giving great looks from 7:30 - 8:30pm At Columbia Reservation in Cuyahoga Co. Well worth the mad dash to get up there from work at the nature center today. Just after sunset the bird seemed to settle in under some taller Spatterdock leaves. We watched it forage and it caught a young frog. Really fun.
Today Blacklick Woods Metro Park (back home in Columbus) had noticeably more migrant birds around than yesterday, highlights being Summer Tanager, Scarlet Tanager, Northern Parulas, Northern Waterthrush, Black-and-white Warblers, Blackburnian Warbler, Ovenbirds, and many others.
Hooray for migration!
