I have not seen this reported on Ohio-Birds, but these birds have been reported on Cincinnati Birds, since Monday, May 3. The Black-necked Stilt, female breeding plumage Wilson's Phalarope, and Silt Sandpiper starting to change from basic/winter plumage were still present at 8:00 pm last night at Fernald Preserve, and 3-4 Dickcissels were singing and visible. There has also been a Cattle Egret (now gone?), Savannah Sparrow, and Henslow's Sparrow, present. The Fernald Preserve is open from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. Directions to this former nuclear processing site: Take I-275 (loop around Cincinnati) west past the juncture with I-74 to Route 128. Take Route 128 north for 5-6 miles past a traffic light at New Haven Road (there is a park on the right before this intersection) to Willey Road and turn left (west). Willey Road is a short distance up the hill from the light at New Haven Road. There is a sign to Fernald Preserve at the Willey Road intersection with Route 128. Continue on Willey Road a few tenths of a mile to the entrance to Fernald Preserve on the right. There is a sign and historical marker sign before this entrance. Follow the entry road bordered by pines north to the visitor center. Park in the parking lot and follow the paved and gravel path to the left of the visitor center. There is a depression that is a marsh where the Black-necked Stilt, Wilson's Phalarope and Stilt Sandpiper can be found. Please Note: Park only in designated areas and stay on the designated paths.
