I was making a summer test-run of the point count protocols at these neighboring parks near downtown Columbus and had some interesting birds along the transect. This included:

Bald Eagle - 1-2 adults flying along the river. 1 swooped down not far from the Grange Audubon center, apparently looking for carp. They're likely feeding big juveniles at this stage of nesting.

Herring Gull - 1 pristine alternate (breeding)-plumaged bird was hanging out around the Greenlawn dam. This may raise the hope (or spectre?) of possible breeding around Columbus, but I guess we'll have to wait for an adult feeding a juvenile.

Flycatchers - 3+ Wood Pewees, 3+ Acadians, and 1 Great Crested along the bikepath in Berliner were very good numbers for this isolated riparian forest.

Gnatcatchers - adults were feeding fledgelings at several points along the trail both in Scioto and Berliner. They seem to have had a very successful nesting season hereabouts.

Prothonotary Warblers - at least 2 were singing along the river's edge of the riparian forest in Berliner.
