Greetings all-

A rare breeder in northern Ohio, the spritely Winter Wren typically
requires cool riparian Hemlock-laiden valleys, mature beech/maple/
mixed conifer forest and rocky outcroppings. The Ledges at Virginia
Kendall in Cuyahoga Valley National Park offers prime habitat for this
and other specialties such as Black-throated Green Warbler, Hermit
Thrush, and Dark-eyed Junco. Currently one if not two pairs of wrens
are successfully nesting at this location.

We recently located an active nest, and yesterday we were able to
document the site and birds fairly well with point-and-shoot photos.
To view a small gallery, see my blog:

Other resident species include Hooded Warbler, Scarlet Tanager,
Acadian Flycatcher, Blue-headed Vireo, Ovenbird, Wood Thrush, Veery,
and Pileated Woodpecker among other common breeders.

Best of birding-
Jen
