I went up to Conneaut today, mostly for atlasing in some areas around Conneaut Creek.  The creek itself was running very high, murky, fast, and LOUD.  It was also quite windy, so it often wasn't easy finding songbirds.  In addition to sites at the creek I also visited Malek Park and southern Conneaut Twp.  Highlights for the morning were:  11 wild turkeys, ad. bald eagle, spotted sandpiper, hairy woodpecker, pileated woodpecker, e. wood-pewees, great crested flycatchers, 5 Acadian flycatchers, willow flycatcher, e. kingbirds, yellow-throated vireo, warbling vireo, red-eyed vireos, blue-gray gnatcatcher, veery, wood thrushes, brown thrashers, blue-winged warbler, chestnut-sided warbler, Am. redstarts, Louisiana waterthrush, 9 hooded warblers, rose-breasted grosbeak, indigo bunting, bobolinks, e. meadowlark, orchard oriole (my first ever for the Conneaut area), Baltimore orioles, and purple finch.  In the early morning and again at lunchtime
I checked Conneaut harbor.  Birds there included: bald eagle, 3 semipalmated plovers, greater yellowlegs, 6 semipalmated sandpipers, 2 dunlin, 75 herring gulls, a first-summer lesser black-backed gull, an imm. great black-backed gull, 2 Caspian terns, willow flycatcher, purple martin, and bank swallows.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
