Summer tanagers are making a good showing this spring in Morgan County near
Burr Oak State Park as I located a singing male near the entrance to Burr
Oak State Park Lodge off of scenic SR 78 over the holiday weekend. Also
this evening, I had a stunning young male bird in my yard - I became aware
of this bird from inside the house as I heard the distinct "pitti tucktuck"
aspect of its notes. I rushed out with optics in hand to observe the bird
for quite some time - what a beauty. New yard bird too! Interesting to
note, I've had much less expected species such as Peregrine falcon (flyover
2007) and Red-headed woodpecker as yard birds, before I had a Summer
tanager. I live in the woods - like Joe from Perry County.

Also, it appears as if the hen drake duo of Ring-necked ducks made it to
June 1 at the previously mentioned location in northern Athens County. The
birds were not present today morning and evening as they had been since late
April and it looks like turtle traps have been set in the pond sometime late
yesterday.
