Spurred on by an interesting post by Bill Whan
dated 3 June regarding regional checklists, I
thought this eBird perspective may be of interest.

In reference to the regional checklist totals given by
Bill in that post, I give here the percentage of those
species totals represented at the moment within
the eBird database.

eBird listing for Cleveland Region (Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, Summit) - 92% of the published literature.
http://tinyurl.com/23t4eqa

eBird listing for Toledo (Fulton, Henry, Lucas, Ottawa, Wood) - 92%
http://tinyurl.com/26xezpn

Franklin County alone - 85% of 330.

eBird listing for Greater Columbus (Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Madison, Pickaway, Union) ... 301 species
http://tinyurl.com/27b4vcl

if Franklin County is representative of the Greater Columbus area then we would expect this region has recorded about 354 species.

For the curious ... current eBird listings for

Dayton / Cincinnati (Butler, Clermont, Greene, Hamilton, Montgomery, Preble, Warren) ... 308 species
http://tinyurl.com/23au76u

Heart of Amish country (Ashland, Coshocton, Holmes, Knox, Stark, Tuscarawas, Wayne) ... 279 species
http://tinyurl.com/248zexa

Sandusky Plains  (Crawford, Hancock, Hardin, Marion, Sandusky, Seneca, Wyandot) ... 311 species
http://tinyurl.com/23hoh8h

or make up your own regional checklist

PS> We surpassed 3000 checklists submitted to Ohio eBird in
May (3200+) for the first time. No less than 37 observres
submitted an entry for the 14 May Magee Marsh Kirtland's Warbler.
My thanks to all participants.
