The merlins nesting in MV this summer are in a decidedly natural nest. an old
crow or hawk nest, not entirely sure. The location may be weird, but they
chose it themselves, no human intervention whatsoever.
I don't know about any other returning raptor species, but at least one is
forging its own way.
P.S. sorry if I fudge anything up with this, been years since I've been on a
listserv.
