Marie--
Yeah, and that's only part of the story. We congratulate ourselves that
as we have prospered we become more mindful about
the wild world, but see the current (26 July) issue of the New Yorker,
pp. 49-61, where an article titled "Emptying the Skies" treats the
"harvest"--legal or illegal, who seems to care?--of migrant songbirds as
part of a "cultural heritage" in Europe. In nearly every part of the
world, the effect of our species has to be factored in as we study wild
birds and their populations, distributions, etc.
