The Sanderling reported on Saturday, 07/17, along the Greater Miami near Carillon and UD Arena, was still present Sunday morning, 07/18. I arrived at about 10:00 am, but didn't find the bird until between 11:30 am and 12:00 noon. Also present were 2 Spotted Sandpipers, 1 Solitary sandpiper, 11 least sandpipers, and 1 Short-billed Dowitcher and lots of Killdeer. All observations were made from the northern edge of the river east of the motel across from the UD Arena, where there is a gravel construction road. The Sanderling was seen just before I left the area close to 12 noon near the eastern edge of the mudflats and gravel pars along the northern edge of the river. The Short-billed Dowitcher was feeding in the shallow water just east of the motel. This looks like a productive area and needs to be monitored while the river is low enough for the flats to be exposed.
