A quick hike through Scioto MetroPark and nearby Berliner Park this morning (before the heat) produced a modest fallout of Baltimore Orioles, with 14 in 2 hours. Most were males, and almost all of them were in the riparian woods along the Scioto River. This is a good number for here, and likely represents the crest of this species' migration through central Ohio. Other notables included:
Herons - 5 Great Blue herons and 4 Great Egrets
Waterfowl - 8 cormorants along with the expected Mallards & Canada Geese
Shorebirds - some mudflats present on the river, but only Kildeer were found
Pileated Woodpecker - a bird along the Berliner bikepath is one of only a few records for this area.
Swallows - small #s of Rough-wings and Barns; no Tree Swallows or Cliff Swallows
Other landbird migrants - nothing other than a few Pewees and gnatcatchers.
