Three of us checked out Unit B of Pipe Creek and the Pearson Rd pond of Pickerel
Creek (across from the orchid field). Both had ample mudflats and a good
selection of shorebirds, to wit:
Semipalmated plovers and killdeer (some young killdeer at Pickerel)
Least, semipalmated, solitary (Pipe only), and pectoral (more at Pickerel)
sandpipers
Lesser yellowlegs
Short-billed dowitchers
Also at Pipe, quite a few snowy and great egrets and a few great blue herons
plus Caspian, common, and Forster's terns. Many swallows massing at both,
including purple martins at Pickerel.
