I was at Conneaut harbor from 6:40 AM to 1:00 PM today.  There were surprisingly few people on the spit until lunchtime.  The main pool has gone dry, as L. Erie water level continues to fall.  Shorebird habitat is restricted to the shores of the spit now, but that area is good and was attracting birds when undisturbed.  The lagoon area is worth checking too.  Highlights today: blue-winged teal, hooded merganser, an adult pied-billed grebe (quite early), 9 bald eagles, black-bellied plover, 10 semipalmated plovers, 2 spotted sandpipers, 2 greater yellowlegs (first juvs.), 9 lesser yellowlegs, 5 ruddy turnstones (3 ads., first 2 juvs.), 3 sanderlings (first juv.), 20+ semipalmated sandpipers (all juvs.), 10 least sandpipers (1 ad.), 2+ juv. Baird's sandpipers, pectoral sandpiper(s), stilt sandpiper (first juv.), 10 Caspian terns, belted kingfisher, e. kingbird, purple martins, bank swallows, 30 barn swallows, tree swallows, yellow warbler, c.
yellowthroat, and cedar waxwings.  The annual D-Day Re-enactment is coming up this weekend at Conneaut harbor, I think it's on Saturday.  When the Allies are staging on the spit, it will be closed to civilians.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
