Yesterday we went and viewed the previously described, beautiful plumaged, male Rufous Hummingbird at the home of Chris Troyer, from 2:30PM to 3:30PM. This guy's orange color is gorgeous. The bird has been present now for a week. It frequents the right hummingbird feeder, or is perched in the maple tree to the right of the house. Twice during our visit, it went across the road and disappeared for a short while but returned each time. It is definitely the dominant bird, always chasing the numerous Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. The co-host families of Chris Troyer (son-in-law), and David Miller (father-in-law), welcome visitors with chairs and a picnic table to sit at while viewing. They say the bird is most active feeding around 5:30PM, but can be seen anytime, as we can attest. The location is at 10778 Emerson Road, west of the town of Kidron, or east of the town of Apple Creek, at the intersection of Mt Hope Road. Park at the end of the driveway.
