Hi all,
Just in case any of you are interested or around Athens, an Osprey can be
seen at close range hunting for fish along the Hocking River. It can be best
seen on 682/S Plains Road between Richland Avenue round about and White's Mill.
The location link is provided below -:
http://www.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=&daddr=39.323974,-82.112503&hl=en&geocode=&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=15&sll=39.323343,-82.110744&sspn=0.015205,0.027595&ie=UTF8&z=15
I have been observing this raptor for a couple of days here but couldn't ID
it due to heavy traffic/construction on the road. Though I am no expert at
raptors, looking at the numerous failed attempts (6-7 while I was there) of
this Osprey to get a fish I feel it might be a juvenile male. Will post some
pictures later in the evening for ID.
In case you stop by this area, you can also hear a red tailed hawk calling
from the woods, though I haven't been able to seen its perch.
Happy birding.
Archan.
