Today was the OYBC monthly field trip down to southern ohio in Holmes and Wayne Counties to
look for fall migrants. We started off the morning by going to the Wilderness Center in Wayne
County. There we had the following birds:

4 Green Heron
1 Carolina Wren
1 Least Flycatcher
2 Eastern Wood-Pewee
1 Philadelphia Vireo
1 White-eyed Vireo
1 Scarlet Tanager
1 Bay-breasted Warbler
1 Blackburnian Warbler
2 Eastern Towhee

The next stop was to Emerson rd. to see the RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD in Apple Creek. We waited for
about 5 minutes, but then the bird was spotted in a tree across the street. Right when we were
about to leave, the bird flew down and on to the feeder for about 10 seconds.

The last stop was to Funk Bottoms Wilderness Area. When we arrived at the observation tower, a
woman was just leaving and said they had at least 22 Sandhill Cranes fly by. We watched for a little
while, but had no luck of finding any. We went over to Wilderness rd. to look for any shorebird
habitat. The group scoped out pretty much the only mudflat on the road. There we found:

1 Double-crested Cormorant
3 Sandhill Cranes
2 Bald Eagle
20+ Killdeer
3-5 Semipalmated Sandpipers
1 Baird's Sandpiper
1 White-rumped Sandpiper
15+ Bobolink

Lastly, Jim McConnor and Roger Beuk were at Conneaut on Friday (9/10) and they had many great
looks at 2 WHIMBRELS and a look at a BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE. The bird flew around for only a
couple minutes, but then took off.

Good Birding,
