Yesterday brought some pleasant surprises here at Firefly Hollow. We're
about as far south in Ohio as you can get being about 1.5 miles from the
Ohio River. First (Athens County) I heard a Red-breasted Nuthatch in the
distance. I pulled out my Birdjam to confirm what I was hearing. I had two
Red-breasted Nuthatches fly in to me in response to the call. Later as I was
out back in the woods (Washington County) I spotted another one working the
trees.

After I returned to the house (Athens County) and was sitting in the living
room a small bird flew in to see what all the action at the bird feeders was
all about. Obviously a wren but not the Carolina Wrens that visit daily, all
I could think of was a Winter Wren. I have never seen a winter wren here so
I picked up my binoculars to get a good look. By golly it sure was a cute
little Winter Wren. What a nice surprise. I hope it stays for awhile.

Other sightings in the woods- 2 or 3 Brown Creepers and Yellow-Rumped
Warblers.
