Reading the posts, I was reminded that it was time to check for
merlins at the
cemetery, so coming home late from the Heights I stopped at Highland
Park
to see if any had returned.

Sure enough, a merlin was perched right where I first found one last
year.
Sitting on the dead branches of the maple tree, right behind the oil
tanks on the edge
of the golf course. He was quite undisturbed by my presence. I
pulled up next to him in
my car, took lots of pictures and then got out of the car to try for
closer shots.

Finally flew off when a wedge of geese slowly passed over the tree. I
followed him (I think
it is a male) around, back to the cemetery, perched in the spruce in
section 20. Back to
the golf course, much further away, and back to the cemetery. After
and hour, at 6:35 I
lost him as he flew north in the cemetery. I assume roosting there,
but I wasn't able to
locate the spot.
