Chickadees rarely make headline news on the listserv, but that could change soon.  The Great Lakes area is experiencing a massive movement/invasion of black-capped chickadees right now, probably the largest movement in decades.  Very large numbers have been reported from southern Ontario and the Great Lakes states recently (see birdingonthe.net), and with them have been at least a couple BOREAL CHICKADEES.  There are only ~10 records of this species in Ohio, and all have been during BC chickadee invasions.  Birders along and near L. Erie should keep a sharp lookout from now through early spring!  Also, those who live in Carolina chickadee range should be on alert for black-caps, even in southern Ohio.  This will be a very interesting ID problem on this year's CBCs I think.  The main thing is--don't assume chickadees are only "the usuals" in Ohio this fall/winter/spring no matter where you are in the state.  It's great that someone has already
observed and posted about an odd chickadee near Rocky River in N Ohio today.  That bird is evidently just a black-capped with unusual plumage, but that's the kind of birding effort that often pays off eventually.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
