I visited southern Alum Creek Lake (mostly New Galena) and the Oxbow-Mudhen Marsh area of Hoover reservoir this morning, praying for a stray Cave Swallow, but getting a decent movement of diurnal migrants as compensation. Notables included:

Waterfowl - no real movement yet other than Coots, which were present in small flocks at every stop.

Flickers - 3-5 at nearly every stop, they seemed to be on migration.
Robins - small flocks moving south over New Galena, totaling about 120 birds in 1hr
Cedar Waxwings - small flocks over both New Galena & Oxbow, 60-100/hr
Kinglets - 2-3 Golden-crowns were at each location

Yellow-rumped Warblers - one of our few day-migrating warblers, 24 flew south over New Galena in 1 hr, while 8-10 flew over Oxbow in half that time.

Sparrows - 3-4 Chipping were at both NG and Oxbow, while each also had 15-20 White-throated. New Galena had an early Fox Sparrow.

Blackbirds - small flocks of Redwings were also flying south over New Galena, about 110/1 hr, while fewer (10/hr) were going over Oxbow & Mudhen. 1 Rusty Blackbird flew south over New Galena, my first of the season.

Finches - no siskins yet, but 5 different individual Purple Finches flew south past New Galena. None were at Oxbow, but another was at Thompson park southeast of the reservoir, so they seem to be on the move.
