Our one hundred mile trek from Guilford Lake in Columbiana County to Conneaut today was well worth it; Ohio Life Birds #320 and #321. Upon our arrival shortly after 1PM, we saw John Pogacnik and Bob Krajeski intently looking out over the vast sandy area between the base of the grassy hill and the public beach. Immediately what we saw was something we did not expect to see today, Cave Swallows!, 4 to 5 of them flying by within ten feet of our heads, how amazing! The California Gull was our goal bird for the day, but these guys were an unbelievable bonus. The Swallows were constantly moving over this area four hours later when we departed after 5PM. They were easily seen to the left as you enter the access road to the sandspit. Also along with John's previously posted list, we had a latish Semipalmated Plover, 2 Sanderlings, numerous Dunlins, and 1 American Pipit. With all this birding excitement here today, there were only five other birders encountered in our four hour visit.
