I saw and heard a nice variety of birds this weekend although I was doing non-birding stuff the whole time.  Since I was in places that don't get much birder attention, I thought this might be of some interest.........Saturday 10/2 at Riverside Pk. (along the Muskingum R.) in Zanesville: great blue heron, turkey vultures, red-tailed hawk, killdeers, chimney swifts, belted kingfisher, red-bellied & downy woodpeckers, n. flicker, blue jays, Am. crows, Carolina chickadees, tufted titmice, white-breasted nuthatches, Carolina wrens, golden-crowned kinglets, ruby-crowned kinglet, e. bluebirds, Am. robins, gray catbirds, cedar waxwings, magnolia warbler, blackpoll warbler, e. towhees, chipping sparrows, song sparrows, white-throated sparrow, n. cardinals, house finches, and Am. goldfinches.  On Sunday 10/3: in Portage Co.--Cooper's hawk in Brimfield, Am. kestrel in Palmyra, and chimney swifts in Kent.  In Mahoning Co.--Bonaparte's gulls and tree swallows at
 L. Milton; double-crested cormorants and chimney swifts at Meander Creek Res.; and in the Youngstown/Coitsville area wild turkeys, Cooper's hawks, red-shouldered hawk, killdeers, golden-crowned kinglet, e. bluebirds, and chipping sparrows.  So nothing overly exciting was found, but I enjoyed seeing birds scattered over a portion of Ohio on an early October weekend.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
