I had a great day yesterday, enjoying northern Ohio fall migration. I
stopped by Lorain impoundment early, and saw most of the birds reported by
Sally. In addition, there was a lone American Golden-Plover and
Semi-palmated Sandpiper with the Dunlin when I arrived, and in the northern
area one Horned Grebe. It is nice to see the Juncos moving down for the
winter.

At Pipe Creek I was amazed by the number of Winter Wren; along each path and
even out on the rocks they were everywhere, in some spots I saw as many as
10 in one view! Golden-crowned and Ruby-crowned Kinglets were a distraction
as they fluttered around the trees, but I managed to see good diversity -
Nashville, Orange-crowned, Myrtle, Black-throated Blue, Black-throated
Green, Yellow, Palm, Common Yellowthroat, Tennessee, Ovenbird, and Magnolia
Warblers. I was also amazed at the number of Brown Creeper, they seemed to
be on every other tree. The water level was high in all the areas, area B
held one Black-bellied Plover, and a few smaller sandpipers - I didn't
bother to go back for the scope. The woods were full of noisy White-throated
Sparrow throwing up the leaves, and many White-crowned Sparrow had arrived.
I also saw two Lincoln Sparrows in the reeds, along with a pair of Marsh
Wren. It was a wonderful day to be outside! BTW, despite the temps, a few
hungry mosquitos managed to find my hand/face, still need a little
protection.
