I visited this MetroPark along Darby Creek west of Columbus hunting for temperate migrants, and found a fair number. I hiked around Darby Bend Lakes, then went over to the Coneflower Trail on the opposite side of the creek. The cool morning had many birds active, but waterfowl were not among them, as the Lakes had very little on them. Notable landbirds in 2 hours included

Winter Wrens - at least 3 of them were lurking around the Coneflower Trail, a spot that, despite its openness, seems to attract them

Kinglets - more Ruby-crowns (7+) than Golden-crowns (3), which wasn't surprising given the paucity of evergreens here.

Thrushes - single Hermit Thrushes at each location, along with fair-sized flocks of Robins. The only E.Bluebirds were 2 flyovers at the Coneflower trail.

Horned Larks - flyovers at both locations; these latest of migrants seem to be gearing up.

Warblers - only Yellow-rumped, with 10-12 at each location

Sparrows - good morning for numbers, with 65+ White-throated, 25+ White-crowned, 24 Field, 32 Song, 1 Chipping, 2 Savannah, 1 Lincolns. 1 Swamp, 2 Towhess, and 2 Juncos. There is a lot of good habitat here, so numbers and diversity is probably even higher than this.

Icterids - small flocks of Redwings were moving through for most of the morning. Other icterids, however, were quite scarce, with only 2 grackles, and 1 E.Meadowlark, and no Rusty blackbirds yet.

Finches - lots of Goldfinches, but the prize were 2 female PURPLE FINCHES feeding in a berrybush along Darby Creek. This species is a rare stray here, but regular in Oct-Nov.
