Ron Sempier reports from Killdeer Plains WA that the northern shrike
remains; in my experience, the windier it is the harder shrikes are to
find.
"The northern shrike seems to have taken up residence once again on CR71
east of CR 115. Today I found it from the first parking lot on the left
(Dove Hunting Area) two weeks ago I found it from the second parking
area (Dove Hunting). A scope is best, it looks good and is actively
hunting. Had 2 Wilson snipe & 1 killdeer. Many golden-crowned kinglets
and American tree sparrow. 5 adult bald eagles and 2 juveniles. A side
note is that my wife has on at least 3 occasions seen a pair of bald
eagles fly around the quarry on Likens Rd in Marion. Good numbers of pb
grebe, mallard 3 swan species: mute, tundra & trumpeter. Along with the
usual suspects and the short time out it was a great afternoon. PS--1
blue phase snow goose."
