Subject: [Ohio-birds] Blackbrook Audubon Society Field Trip along Lake Erie, 11/21
Blackbrook Audubon Society held a field trip along the lake starting at 8:30. Our starting location
was Mentor Beach State Park. There we had the following:
Mallard 15, American Black Duck 2, Red-breasted Merganser (hundreds), Horned Grebe 1, Double-crested Cormorant 1, Common Loon 1, Ring-billed Gull (hundreds), Blue Jay 1, American
Crow 2, Golden-crowned Kinglet 1, Northern Cardinal 1, House Sparrow 5.
The 2nd stop was Sunset Park in Willoughb. Not much there though. Here's what we found:
Red-breasted Merganser (hundreds), Bufflehead 3, Ring-billed Gull (hundreds).
The next stop in our trip was the Eastlake Power Plant in Eastlake. There were many gulls here,
and few ducks.
Red-breasted Merganser 300ish, Ruddy Duck 2, Common Loon 1, Ring-billed Gull many, Herring
Gull (about 15), Bonapartes Gull 7, Great Black-backed Gull 3, LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL 4,
Double-crested Cormorant 3, Bald Eagle 2, Rock Pigeon 9, American Crow 2.
Sim's Park in Euclid was our last stop of the day. There were probably thousands of Red-breasted
Mergs here. Here's the following birds seen:
Canada Goose 103, Common Goldeneye 8, Bufflehead 3, Red-breasted Merganser (thousands),
BLACK SCOTER 9, SURF SCOTER 1, Horned Grebe 1, Common Loon 1, Ring-billed Gull, Red-
bellied Woodpecker 1, Downy Woodpecker 1, Blue Jay 5, European Starling 25, Black-capped
Chickadee 1, White-breasted Nuthatch 1, Dark-eyed Junco 12, Common Grackle 2.
