Yesterday I did a big loop in Trumbull and Ashtabula Cos., hitting Mosquito L/WA, Ashtabula, Conneaut, and Pymatuning Res.  I avoided the rain until afternoon.  Best birding by far was at Mosquito L., highlights there: 70 gadwalls, 9 n. shovelers, 15 green-winged teal, 5 redheads, 3 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS (seen from the causeway), hooded merganser, ruddy ducks, pied-billed grebe, 2 great blue herons, 3 ad. bald eagles, n. harrier, 200 Am. coots (one of the eagles launched an attack on them, they gathered into an incredibly tight bunch in defense!), 6 greater yellowlegs, 10 Wilson's snipes, 50 Bonaparte's gulls, 1000+ ring-billed gulls, belted kingfisher, 2 golden-crowned kinglets, e. bluebirds, e. towhee (late), Am. tree sparrows, white-throated sparrows, and an excellent total of 220 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS.  I left Mosquito and went to Lakeshore Park in Ashtabula next.  There was nothing of note there.  On to Conneaut harbor.  It was pretty dull there
too, only birds of interest were gadwalls, great blue heron, an imm. red-shouldered hawk (unexpected there in Nov.), 3 dunlins, 300 Bonaparte's gulls, and great black-backed gull.  On the drive home I stopped at the Pymatuning Res. causeway, nothing of interest on the Ohio side except some Bonaparte's gulls.  With the lousy weather, the only other raptors I saw during the day were 3 red-tailed hawks and 1 Am. kestrel in Ashtabula Co.   Craig Holt, Lowellville
