This morning, Sunday November 21st, Jeff Harvey and myself, did a tour of eastern Mahoning County from 8:30AM to about 12:15PM. The temperature was around 40 degrees; overcast to begin with, then became sunny. Waterfowl species were good with some high count numbers. We checked out The Mill Creek Sanctuary, Pine Lake, and Evans Lake. We recorded 49 bird species in our tour. The following are some of the highlights: Common Loon 9, Pied-billed Grebe 14, Double-crested Cormorant 1, Tundra Swan 55, Gadwall 4, Northern Shoveler 8, Bufflehead 80+, Hooded Merganser 600+, Common Merganser 3 females, Red-breasted Merganser 4 females, Ruddy duck 1400+, Bald Eagle 4, American Coot 40+, Killdeer 30+, Pectoral Sandpiper 1, Wilson's Snipe 5+, Red-winged Blackbird 60+, and Rusty Blackbird 40+. Also of note; something seen at Berlin Reservoir yesterday, but not seen at any of these locations today; was 350+ Bonaparte's Gulls.
