Hello Ohio Birders,

Two sandhill cranes appeared more or less on schedule at 5:15 pm today on the midflats at the upper end of Deer Creek Lake, Pickaway Co. (DeLorme p. 67). The best viewing is from the picnic area on the east side of S.R. 207 -- the access is Miller Rd. at the Pickaway-Fayette county line sign. (This seems to be the most reliable central Ohio location for sandhills in November.)

Of minor note on the lake were a small flock of dunlin and 8 common loons plus a very cooperative adult bald eagle eating a carp. Waterfowl were few in number and variety (beside the loons, pied-billed grebe, mallards, lesser scaup, hooded mergansers, ruddy ducks).

Happy birding,

Dave Horn
Columbus
