What a great trip into town! I saw a red-tailed hawk, northern harrier, bald
eagle, and a northern shrike in the state game reserve just south of Carey.
The bird was in a treeline near a cattle pasture between CH 97 and 98. It
then flew toward the game reserve. I have seen shrike in the game reserve
several other times in the past, but usually later in winter. It had to just
show up recently, because the hunting pressure there is pretty heavy. I
don't suspect it will be around long for the same reason.
