My son-in-law, John is in town for the week and we spent some time this morning in the Funk Bottoms area in Wayne County.

Here is our list for the morning.

Sandhill Crane,,,75,"Flock near Funk"
American Kestrel,,,4,"One very cooperative"
Canada Goose,,,25,,
Red-shouldered Hawk,,,1,"Immature at Funk"
Red-tailed Hawk,,,1
Northern Harrier,,,1
American Coot,,,10
Rock Pigeon,,,15
Blue Jay,,,2
American Crow,,,10
European Starling,,,30
White-crowned Sparrow,,,5
Dark-eyed Junco,,,1
American Tree Sparrow,,,5
Northern Cardinal,,,2"
American Robin,,,1

The Sandhill Cranes and the cooperative Kestrel were the highlights. The Kestrel allowed me to get out of the car and use my large lens to several photos of it. We wondered why it did not fly away, like they typically do when you get close. After studying my photos, it appears that it only has one leg. Wondering if that was the reason?

The Sandhill Cranes were in recently tilled field and I was able to get out and set up my tripod for some fairly sharp photos of them. We were able to get some photos of two cranes coming in to join the flock and then when I moved the tripod, the flock took off.

Also one of the cranes had a leg band on it: Z07. You can see it in the photo which has 3 cranes together.

Here is the link for the best shots from the morning.

Note: most all of the closeups were taken using a 400mm lens and they were cropped at 100%.
