I enjoyed a rainy hike around Scioto MetroPark and nearby Berliner Columbus Park, looking for migrants. Both places were inundated with Robins and Starlings feeding on the huge crop of honeysuckle berries. Digging through the flocks, and watching the river, helped produce a decent list that included:

Herons - several Great Blues, but nothing else

Dabbling Ducks - only Mallards & Black Ducks, but they were widespread

Diving Ducks - a single Ring-necked Duck was along the River, along with 3-4 Hooded mergansers. More numerous were the 15-16 Cormorants off the boat launch.

Raptors - a Kestrel was surveying the north fields at Scioto, but the rain kept other raptors tucked out of sight.

Woodpeckers - lots of common species, including 12 Downies, 2-3 Red-bellies, and 4 Flickers

Robins, Starlings - about 500 of each, working the berry bushes in both parks. A handful of Cedar Waxwings were with them at Scioto MetroPark.

Creepers, Kinglets - 2 Brown Creepers were at Berliner (which is low for there), while 2-4 Golden-cr.Kinglets were at both places.

Sparrows - Lots of White-throated Sparrows mixed in with the fruit eaters, while a few Song Sparrows and Juncos made up the rest of this group.

Blackbirds - aside from the big Starling flocks, there was an early flock of 20 Grackles around the boat launch.
