While running the dogs on the back end of the property this evening I
encountered Robins and White-throated sparrows in good numbers near the edge
of the woods.  When one bird didn't quite seem to fit in with the rest, I
was able to glass it in and was surprised to see a nicely plump and fairly
bright Wood Thrush.  The bird was on the move quickly through the forest
floor and my glimpse of it was just that.  The bird had a short tail and
large dark spots randomly patterned down its white breast and sides.

This past weekend late on Halloween eve or should I say early Sunday
morning - I had three counter singing and incredibly entertaining Great
horned owls boasting their enthusiasm for forest and territory under a
crystal clear sky and calm wind out of the west.  The back and forth went on
for well over an hour with periods of silence in-between that made the next
round of calls even more important.  I don't think they resolved the
situation.
