As of 3:45PM today, the previously described Red-necked Grebe was still present at the Columbiana County location. For about an hour we watched the Grebe feeding off the Mark's Landing Restaurant parking lot. The Grebe's actions were different today, in that it was constantly feeding, rather than being at rest. The Grebe was swallowing fish that actually appeared to big to get down, but it would take the probable tasty treat and get it in a workable position to swallow it. Could this be a sign of finally moving on? Today there was more numbers and variety of waterfowl. Birds of interest today were: 20+ Gadwall, 12 American Wigeon, 20+ American Black Duck, 1 Ring-necked Duck, 25+ Hooded Mergansers, 15+ Ruddy Ducks, 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 8 American Coot, 2 Bonaparte's Gulls, 1 Red-headed Woodpecker, and 75+ American Pipits nearby being harassed by an American Kestrel.
