Late this afternoon I encountered one of my favorite fall experiences. Between 4 & 4:30 PM I observed
a lo-o-o-o-ng ribbon of what I'm figuring are mostly blackbirds flying northwest towards Mentor
Marsh. I watched large flocks emerge from the wetlands surrounding the southern end of Lake Aquilla
which empties into the west branch of the Cuyahoga River. As they took flight and began to head
northwest, they were joined by flocks from other locations along the way. I was able to observe this
band of birds for ~20 minutes as I drove into Chardon from my home in the same general direction
as they flew.
