On 12-29-2010 I stopped by E.72nd somewhat as a scouting mission before the
thaw to see the level of activity, I met there fellow photog and birder
Dennis McDonnell where we both had descent looks at a "Old Sqauw" Long
Tailed Duck. This male appeared to keep to himself as he fished the warm
water discharge waters diving and often staying down upwards of 90 seconds.

I did not have my Long glass with me but managed a shot which I attached.

Today I stopped back 12-31-2010 and again seen Dennis McDonnell there and
also met Dane there. The Long tailed duck was again spotted much further out
and was with other waterfowl Canvasbacks,Lesser/Greater Scaups, a solo Pied
Billed Grebe, Mallards and American Black Ducks a few Goldeneyes and a
couple Ring Necked Ducks were present.

Numbers of waterfowl and Gulls was down from my previous visit on 12-29-2010
as most all the ice had thawed and was now open waters.

Lets hope this LongTail hangs around for a bit.

Other birds from the area Including here can be seen at
